Call to Order:
Barbie Mustion called the meeting to order
Chancellor’s Update:
- New enrollment record: 5 semesters with increases and 4 of the 5 record numbers
- Update on budget cuts and economy
- Governor proposed that Missouri State and other higher education institutions not get a budget cut and instead not raise tuition.
- Some budgets are on hold including position announcements and building projects
- Chancellor Bennett also mentioned how wonderful it is to have patrons in the community, even through economic crisis, that will offer programs to help, he specifically mentioned the Wendell Bailey Entrepreneurship Program Endowment that will provide $100,000 to students in the Associate of Applied Science in Entrepreneurship degree program
- Recruiting efforts are going very well and West Plains High School will be participating in the Red Carpet day for the first time
Approval of Minutes:
Rogers Taylor motioned to approve the minutes, Kris Brinkerhoff seconded the motion
Old Business:
- Update on Spirit Day: Feb 19 and 23rd will be days that is approved to wear Grizzly attire and to show your support for the Grizzly Teams.
- Staff Stuffer
- West Plains Library Foundation Chili Cook-off
- Cook-off will be held Feb 28th
- Volunteers will be rose, Bill, CJ, Mark, Diane and Veronica
New Business:
- The Chancellor has asked for nominations for the Granvil Vaughan Founders Award. Suggestion was made that Harold and Martha Henry be considered for the Award
- Missouri State University Wall of Fame. Please bring nominations to the next meeting
- Review of the Staff Employee Handbook: Focus Group Volunteers. Suggestion was made that Alex Graham be a representative on the group
- Cost Saving Measures on Supplies. Many initiatives have been proposed to help save money on supplies such as:
- Ordering materials together to save shipping costs
- Place unused items in locations where they can be used by others
- Bookstore has offered to turn unused scrap paper into notebooks that people can use
- Department contest: Terry Hampton proposed that people participate in the Annual Auction by donating items. The contest will be just a friendly note on whose items raises the most money. The winning department will receive an award. Item descriptions need to be in by March 2nd and entry fee will $10
