Just want to start off saying hola (hello in Spanish) and HOLLA!
Yo, I want all my freshman, my sophomores (and whoever reads this post) to listen up.
Aight, so the other day I was walkin’ home.
Kinda mosyin’ back to my room,
And before I knew it, somethin’ caught my eye.
It was a beautiful, big, black bird in the sky.
I yelled, “Yo, bird, I want to be like you!
Let me be part of your bird flying crew!”
But the bird flew on without a care—
didn’t even see me, didn’t even get scared.
That’s when I thought, “Well, golly, I can’t fly.
If I jumped off a building, I would probably die.”
But that don’t make me a failure. Homie, see,
My anatomy ain’t nothin’ like a little birdie’s.
I was built for somethin’ different, somethin’ huge, and somethin’ cool.
Das why I’m studying hard in nursing school.
So don’t get discouraged when someone else excels more.
Maybe you’re just tryin’ to open the wrong door
But in the same, maybe das what you need—
A second chance to try again to help you succeed.
And just because we can’t spread our wings in the sky
Doesn’t mean we ain’t got swag cuz (insert your name), we so fly!
Word.
You heard it, lil homies. We were all designed differently with different strengths and weaknesses, so as you continue on in college, don’t be scurred to try harder to to change career paths and courses as you learn more about yourself.
Peace.
