Update? Who needs an Update!

Well, here we go – the Veterans Blog is up and running again! The Veterans Center is open for the summer, and the Student Veterans Organization is in “Planning mode.” Anyta will be tutoring this summer, but the search is still on-going for a math tutor. Hopefully some of our great veterans will step up to the plate and put their hat in the ring for this position.
We had a team go to the 18th Annual Grizzly Golf Classic at the West Plains Country Club. The team consisted of Bruce Cavitt, Anyta Cavitt, and Matthew Johnson. Together they scored 72, and won two door prizes, a coffee cup and golf towel.
The SVO has two volunteers working this summer with the “Helping Hands Therapeutic Riding Program” at Risner Stables. These volunteers help disabled men, women, and children with their therapy by preparing the horses, leading and guiding horses during the session, and then tend the horses afterwards. Bruce Cavitt is still the lead on this volunteer program for us, even though he has graduated.
Speaking of Graduation we had thirteen (13) graduates this past spring, most of them are continuing their education in to their bachelors, some will still be here on Campus. Bruce Cavitt was nominated for an award for his work on and off campus.2013 Graduating Class
Upcoming events will be the planning and preparing for the new school year. We are looking for volunteers to be a mentor/sponsor for some of our new veterans coming in this fall. We want these new veterans to feel like they are welcome, wanted, and of value to our program and would L-O-V-E to be able to run a program to do this.
Veronica Mays is back! She looks good and healthy after her medical leave. Come by and welcome her home and back to school. While you’re here sign up for the “Relay for Life Student Veterans Organization Team.”  We are walking in her honor! There is a “Ruck off” that we desperately need volunteers for – one from each branch – the one with the most miles with a ruck gets bragging rights, and from the raffle  tickets that are put in their container there will be a prize given away (TBD) at the Event.
Again this post is just to get this thing back on your radar – We can’t wait to see you around the center!

Veterans Incentives Program Established

With the successful achievement of a cooperative grant between the Springfield and West Plains campuses, the Veterans Incentive Program (VIP) has been established. Included with the grant is the creation of a VIP Center (See the tab above). You will be seeing more information on the VIP Center in the coming weeks leading to the Grand Opening.
