Call to Order:
President Bill Brown called the meeting to order.
Approval of Minutes:
- Diane Basom moved to accept the minutes of the July meeting. Grayson seconded the motion.
Chancellor’s Update:
- Dr. Bennett has been meeting with faculty individually and speaking to a variety of community groups. He is trying to become better acquainted with Missouri State and will be asking for information from some of us.
Committee reports: none
Old Business:
- Welcome Week Lunch, Friday, August 17. Bill Brown has prepared a menu with input from students that includes sandwiches, veggies and dip, and cookies. He will need volunteers to make sandwiches beginning around 10 am Friday morning in L100. Other volunteers will be needed to oversee preparation of the park tables and set up. Staff Senate members are asked to bring coolers and ice.
- Brown Bag Lunches. The staff held two brown bag lunches this month. Two ideas came out of the discussions. One involved providing 2 monitors for a couple of staff who use Banner extensively. The second was a 4-day work week. These topics will be discussed further at the September meeting.
New Business:
- Lee Denim Day. Lee Denim Day is October 5 and Chancellor Bennett has approved wearing jeans. Vickie Driskell is in charge of the fundraising for breast cancer and still needs another volunteer to help her.
- Chili Cook-off. There was consensus that we should have the chili cook-off again to raise money for Staff Senate projects. The cook-off has been held in conjunction with Lee Denim Day, which is on a Friday when most faculty are off campus. There was some discussion about whether another date would produce more participation.
- Building Projects. Matt Morris described 3 committees that are being formed in preparation for the upcoming Gohn-Wood and Hass-Hoover projects. A Consultant Selection Committee will be charged with selecting one architect for both projects. The Selection Committee is not involved in designing the buildings, only in the selection of the architect. Once the architect has been selected, Building Committees will be formed, one for Hass-Hoover and another for Gohn-Wood. A representative from each of the department to be housed in these buildings will be included in the Building Committees. The Staff Senate may designate one person to serve on each of these committees. Karen Ryburn asked to participate as the Staff Senate representative for the Hass-Hoover Building Committee. Others who are interested should contact Bill Brown.
- Vice President. A new vice president needs to be elected to replace Joe Gilgour. Bill is accepting nominations and an election will be held at the September meeting.
