- Missouri Department of Higher Education and the Governor both project a 15% – 20% budget cut next year. Best Guess to know will be Jan 2011.
- Emergency grants are available to students in a pinch
- Ozarks Harvest food bank is available to students

- New Grant Writer: Jessie Long
- University Community Programs – Mat Crouse updated what University Communications accomplished Fall 2010.
- Sent out approximately 200 news releases.
- Developed new tagline “New Beginnings. Endless Possibilities.”
- Established KKountry 95 monthly radio interview
- Worked with IT on website redesign
- Worked with IT to update recruitment video with new photos and student testimonials
- Coordinated The Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2010 Great Colleges to Work For program. Missouri State – West Plains was recognized for the second year in a row.
- Developed new format for degree sheets to save money and accommodate faculty requests
- Conducted Marketing Awareness survey in IDS classes with students and at STAR orientations with parent to make sure advertising dollars were being spent effectively and to find out how students want to be notified of campus event
- Provided marketing to support to all the other great initiatives taking place on campus (Grizzly Athletics marketing plan, Project Threshold, TRIO program, National Donor Task Force, Elder Mountain journal, Entrepreneurship program, etc.)
- Developed Media Guides for Volleyball, Basketball and the NJCAA National Tournament
- Developed the 2009-2010 Annual Report
- Developed Spring 2011 Spotlight Brochure
- Developed Various Banners/Signs/Poster/Advertisements to raise awareness and promote campus events
- Developed 2011 Spring Schedules for print and web
- Developed Success Story Billboard to replace Alumni Billboard on HW63
- And much, much more.
- Classroom Office Shuffle – Mat Morris reviewed how the offices and classrooms will be moving into Looney Hall. He also presented a floor plan of the layout of the new allied health building.
- Financial Aid – Donna Bassham discussed accomplishment for Fall 2010:
- For 2009-10 total aid processed/disbursed $11,042,893.
- As of December, $5,655,152 aid has been processed/disbursed for the 2010-11 academic year. Still have spring and summer to go.
- Working hard to keep Stafford Loan Default rate low. Most recent rate was 6.6 percent. Dept. of Ed will be changing the method to calculate the rate. New method used to calculate the rate will cause school’s default rates to go up. Possibly double.
- Retention is a team effort for all of us to keep our students in school so they can graduate, get a good job and pay off their student loans.
- Extra funds received for child care grants. Please encourage students to apply for spring.
- Emergency Grants: Please make sure you sign the Faculty/Staff Referral section of the student’s application. Otherwise, student will have to bring it back for a signature.
- Admissions – Rachel Peterson reviewed how Admissions:
- Moved to Cass Hall last week of July
- Began implementing imaging system
- Did approximately 30 A+ presentations to 9-12 grade students and their parents throughout West Plains High School Registration August 11 and 12 and to every freshman English class on November 17
- In cooperation with UC, produced Presentation Folder, Red Carpet Day posters and bags, Just the Facts, A+ brochure and Threshold brochure
- Distributed information packets to counselors and A+ coordinators to all high schools
- Interviewed, selected and trained 20 student ambassadors, coordinate schedule of university and community events, including adopted street
- Admissions
- Processed 1,752 applications for the fall semester
- Of those applicants, 1,395 were admitted
- Including returning students, total enrollment was 2,2229 – a 3% increase over previous fall and the 12 consecutive semester enrollment increased
- Did High School Visits at 33 schools
- Personal Tour – (26 this fall) 3 in August; 4 in September, 10 in October, 6 in November, 3 so far in December
- High School Extravaganzas
- By tomorrow (Friday 12/10) will have presented to six high school and approximately 1,300 7-12 grade students this semester
- Will have presented a total of 35 extravaganzas since December 2007 and at least one to every school (23) in our service-area
- 3 Mini-extravaganzas at Rolla HS “Experts in the Classroom” day in November
- Red Carpet Days
- Hosted two Red Carpet Days this semester (will do 5 in spring)
- Schools included West Plains, Koshkonong, Norwood, Summersville, Winona, Plato, Bakersfield, Buffalo, Dixon and Strafford
- Total of 321 juniors, seniors and guests
- Provided “windshield bus tours for 4-8 grade students during Literacy Awareness Campaign September 29 and 30.
- Counselor/A+ meeting and luncheon
- Hosting on campus Thursday, December 16
- Presentation re: components of College Access Grant (ways to help them and their students) and the TRIO grant
- Exhibit and Booths
- Exhibited at 33 college fairs all over the state of Missouri, the Missouri School Counselor Association conference, MSU-WP/SCCC Career Fair and multiple community events (i.e. Willow Springs Ozfest, Summersville Fall Festival, Boy Scout Univeristy)
- Drago Book Store – Karmen Cressman reviewed FY 10-Fiscal year – 33% increase over prior year, net profit.
- End of November 30% over last November, net profit.
- $54,000 of store bottom line goes to MSU-WP general fund with possible increase of $25,000 more.
- Fall increase in textbook reservations & online sales.
- Fall increase in technology & food sales, all of this with a fairly significant theft in books last year.
- Started a rental program this fall. Will increase each semester. It takes until the end of the 2nd semester from rentals to start recouping costs.
- Survived the national volleyball tournament – we actually give a lot of time and behind the scenes support to this event. We only make $1 for each National Volleyball shirt that sells and though we do sell a few other items, we do invest staff time to man the booth full-time during the tournament. We felt it went well.
- We went to 4 pre-schools and read this fall. We use this as a way to get the word out to parents of those kids about our bargain book program.
- Karmen went to the Mid-States Convention for 3 days in October in Kansas City. Met with bookstore managers and buyers from 4 state region. Learned trends and concerns in the college store industry.
- Paula Wiedemann explained athletics’ accomplishments for Fall 2010:

- The New Grizz was unveiled during Midnight Madness
- Men’s Basketball:
- Currently have a 12-1 record with a #9 ranking in the NJCAA national poll
- 13th in the country in FT%
- 21st in the country in 3 point team FG%
- Lonnie Hayes is 38th in the country in Assists
- Women’s Volleyball:
- Over the summer – 2 NJCAA Academic All-American
- Danielle Parker – 4th Distinguished Academic All-American
- Abbey Roam – 6th Academic All-American
- Finished 2010 with a record of 18-17
- 4 Region 16 All-Region First Team members

- Sophomore Janel Glidden is graduating in December and is on track to be an NJCAA Academic All-American
