Approval of Minutes:
- Motion by Shanna Dale to approve minutes. Seconded by Jill Stephens. Minutes approved.
Chancellor’s Update:
- Missouri State University-West Plain’s has again been selected as a top school by the Aspen Institute. An additional honor of being one of 40 schools participating in a phone interview to determine the #1 community college or two-year school. That distinction comes with a $1,000,0000 award. Schools receiving honorable mentions are awarded $100,000.
Retention Efforts-Update
- Admin Council and Faculty Senate have reviewed a set of assumptions regarding student retention efforts.
Budget Update
- Governor has signed the state budget with a 1% cut to the higher-education budget.Governor has signed a Capital Projects bill that would allow entities with donated funds to apply for matching dollars for capital projects. Administration is reviewing if the University could take advantage of this program.
Old Business:
Welcome Week Lunch
- Staff Senate will provide lunch for students on the Friday of Welcome Week.
Missouri State University-West Plains Faculty/Staff Wall of Fame:
- Approved by Admin Council but a new name and a location will need to be determined.
Constructions Updates:
- Gohn Hall is on almost on schedule. Melton 101 is undergoing a redo. Some work will be done on the roof of Kellett Hall and the Rec Center punch list is ongoing.
Personnel Searches:
Full-time Positions:
- Instructor of Nursing: scheduling interviews
- Volleyball Asst. Coach: scheduling interviews
- Custodian 1: new hire will start Monday, July 16.
- CGP Lecturer: candidates are being ranked by search committee.
Part-time Positions:
- Tutors: Search ongoing
- PAWS Tutor: Search ongoing
- Events Coordinator: Position filled.
- Library Asst: Interviews scheduled
- Safety Coordinator: Search ongoing. Students are encouraged to apply.
- Parking Attendant: Search ongoing. Students are encouraged to apply.
New Business:
Welcome New Employees
- Scott Schneider, Director of Business & Support Services and Faith Grace, TRIO Administrative Assistant were presented with coffee mugs from Staff Senate.
Goodbye Jessi
- Jessi will be leaving her position to pursue other opportunities.
Putnam Plastic
- Credit/Debit cards will be accepted in Putnam soon.
Announcements:
- Faculty/Staff “Pig” Roast is Aug. 17, 2012.
- Business Bootcamp offered to area high school students through the SBTDC. Cost is $30. More information is available from Darrell Hampsten at (417) 255-7966.
