Chancellor’s Update:
- Coffee Shop in Hass-Darr is scheduled to be open during the BOG reception and open for good, very soon
- Police Substation projected to be open very soon
- Amphitheater projected to be completed by the end of July; Event ideas are being sought
- June 21 – Missouri State University Board of Governors meeting, 1 p.m. Civic Center Magnolia Room.
- June 28 “Where’s The Fun” day – Ice cream will be served to all employees by administrative council members from 2 to 3 p.m. in Hass-Darr Hall. Campus will close from 3 to 5 p.m.
- Questions:
- Are West Plains Staff eligible to apply for Springfield’s Staff Ambassador program and if so, is it too late to apply?
- Dr. Lawler has signed off on two applications and forwarded those to Springfield. Debbie Donnellan, Asst Director, Organizational and Talent Development, from Springfield joined in the call and advised the group they were excited to receive the two applications from West Plains and the deadline has passed for this year, but they look forward to receiving more in the coming years. She also wanted to share with us in regards to the MSU Lead program, it is for Supervisors that complete ADP’s
- Can you explain the Graduate Assistant program we heard about?
- We have been approved for two GA’s, one in Athletics and one in University/Community Programs; if all goes well, we hope to have more in the future
- Can you give us an update on the Action Plan?
- Focus on retention and graduation rates
- Stabilize enrollment
- Grow technical programs
- Partnering with Springfield campus
- (newly added) Increase our marketing
- Are we allowed to share news about the Amphitheater and our search for event ideas within the community and via Facebook?
- Yes, it is going to be available to the community if it is not reserved for campus activities. For now, send ideas to the Chancellor’s office or to Scott Schneider
- Will the speaker use policy be updated to include the amphitheater?
- We have not nailed that down at this time

- Shared Leave Pool Committee: If you have extra vacation days that you might lose, please consider donating them to the Shared Leave Pool. To be eligible to use some donated days, you must have contributed in the past. You can donate 16-48 hours. Contact Alyssa if you have questions
- Jeans on Grizzly Gear Monday: Dr. Lawler has given permission to continue wearing jeans on Mondays, with Grizzly Gear
- 2019-2020 Staff Senate Goals:
- Campus projects to help build moral:
- Once a month potluck, hosted each month by a different department/building
- Attend one volleyball and one basketball game as a group (Staff Senate Night) with tailgating prior to the game
- Community project ideas:
- Attending neighboring community events like volunteering at sporting events in the concession stand or having a booth
- Campus projects to help build moral:
- Staff Senate Polos: It was brought up to offer polos or t-shirts again for those that want to order again and to include the new staff; CJ will check on this and report back
- Fiscal Year-End: Please review budgets, open invoices, PO’s/Requisitions, etc… Fiscal Year ends June 28 and the campus is closing early that day, so keep that in mind
Department/Committee Reports/Updates:
- Student Life/Housing
- Director of Res Life, Cory Neal starts Monday, June 17
- Capital Project for Hass-Darr is projected to be completed by late July or early August; Springfield IT department is assisting with the installation which is saving us a lot of expense
- Welcome Week line-up of events was shared
- Student Organization Leadership training coming
- Rec Center News:
- The racquetball room can now be rented out by the community, Monday through Saturday
- Rec Center hours are Mon-Wed 8am-8pm and Thur-Sat 9am-9pm
- Friday morning Zumba classes will be held at the Methodist Church
- HR
- Ream Optometry in West Plains is now an in-network provider with VSP
- Paper applications are no longer to be used. Part-time and student workers will need to submit a paper resume or apply online once the position is posted
- Athletics
- Grizzly Booster Club, Campus Family Memberships available for all faculty & staff and their current household members, at the reduced price of $250.00
- Civic Center:
- Lifeguards are needed
- Swim lessons in July
