Approval of Minutes:

Chancellor’s Update:
- Dr. Lawler introduced Stephen Monticelli, Chief of Police
- Chief Monticelli shared information on the Geographical Policing, to work on quality of life issues, and the Police Substation located in Drago Hall
- Questions for Chief Monticelli:
- How big of a drug problem do we have in our city? Answer: We see more of a property crime problem, due to drug use.
- If we need assistance from the substation, what number do you call? Answer: 256-2244
- Does WP have a website showing high crime areas within the city? Answer: Not at this time. We are hoping to hire a Crime Analyst in the future so we can establish that information online.
- Do you have plans to visit with students as a whole? Answer: We are hoping to hire more officers and would love to do that.
- Would you be open to speaking during a student organization meeting? Answer: Yes, I would love to do that.
- Dr. Lawler stated she plans to schedule “Coffee with the Chief” at Hass-Darr in the coming future
- Thrilled with the Summer Scholars event
- Enrollment is up 2% in headcount and only down a small amount in credit hours; we are in the black and off to a great start!
- Amphitheater is completed and can be scheduled through Scott Schneider
- Our focus is to stabilize enrollment and our goal is to double the nursing program, focusing on Fast Track
- 10/40 Coffee Shop is open and the gate will be installed today which will allow them to offer more items
- Dr. Lawler asked for feedback on the Professional Development event
- Jared stated he enjoyed it and gained a fresh perspective
President’s Report:
- CJ attended the Springfield Staff Senate meeting and obtained some information on their Staff Senate Scholarship which is funded through fundraisers
Faculty Senate Report:
- Leigh Adams shared information on the Ozarks Symposium and asked for attendance during the opening reception on Sept 19 before we attend the employee picnic at the Chancellor’s house. Clif Smart will be there to speak between 5:30 -5:45, at the Civic Center
Awareness Activity:
- Rachel Peterson shared an activity titled, “Through Their Eyes”, to bring awareness to some of the challenges some of our students may be dealing with in regards to reading and learning disabilities

- Budget Requests:
- Travel reimbursement ($400 to come from the Chancellor) for cabinet members to attend Springfield Staff Senate meetings – Motion made, seconded and motion carried
- Amphitheater Opening Event donation of $300 – Motion made to table the discussion until after the Amphitheater’s committee meeting today, seconded and motion carried
- New Employee gifts – Motion made to table the discussion until next month’s meeting, seconded and motion carried
Discussions:
- Lee Denim Day/Chili Cook-off:
- Motion made to hold our chili cook-off on the same day as Lee Denim Day, which is October 4, seconded and motion carried; Kileene volunteered to collect money for both events
