Updates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chancellor:<\/strong> Dr. Bennett Welcomed group with updates about state budget, wrapping up Kid\u2019s College yesterday and math development challenges with incoming students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welcome New Employees:<\/strong> Kristy Lawrence, Executive Assistant IV (Chancellor\u2019s Office) and\u00a0Kerri Jones, Academic Advisor, (AACCESS)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Open Positions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Current Searches<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administrative Assistant I, TRiP (Full Time Staff); Application deadline 7\/25\/2014<\/li>\n<li>Administrative Assistant II, U\/CP (Full Time Staff); Application deadline 7\/25\/2014<\/li>\n<li>Director of Information Technology Services (Full Time Staff); Application deadline 7\/25\/2014<\/li>\n<li>History (Full Time Faculty, 9-Month Appointment); First date of consideration 6\/20\/2014. The date is TBD but info will be sent shortly for planning.<\/li>\n<li>Missouri Hall (Post Office bldg.) \u2013 waiting to hear from state on funding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Upcoming Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student Welcome Week and Back-to-School picnic to be discussed in the new business.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Departmental Updates:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sylvia: Library resources (distributed bookmarks)<br \/>\nLibrary Express to prepare for standardized tests like GMAT. Theses are free services. Need to register at the library, can go to the website and access without having to go through MSU\u2019s webpage. Workshop with Joan Write at Adult Literacy Center. Non-MSU students may also use by logging into portal to use database at no cost. New touch screen scanner system (automatically centers item and can plug USB in; has a duplex sheet feeder as well).<\/li>\n<li>Chulapol: Online Success Student Orientation, First time students are taking online courses automatically enrolled in orientation course. Students can self-enroll (Blackboard). It helps get the information out to all departments; it helps keep the communication on campus easily available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Approval of Minutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motion to approve: Sophia<\/li>\n<li>Second: Diane<\/li>\n<li>Approved: All<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>II. Old Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2014\/15 Meeting Schedules:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please review\u00a0to ensure no conflicts with university activities.\u00a0 Staff Senate meetings will continue to be on the first Friday of every month unless there is a holiday where it moves to the second Friday.<\/li>\n<li>Schedules will be updated and added to Staff Senate&#8217;s website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Volunteer Opportunities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Habitat for Humanity project update: Project is available should we choose to accept. \u00a0Mary K. will update in the next meeting.<\/li>\n<li>Adopt-A-Street option. Scott has no update.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Staff Dedication Wall:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Asking for ideas finding funding sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>III. New\u00a0Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Small Business Incubator tour and Aug. Meeting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Friday, Aug. 1<sup>st<\/sup> Staff Senate meeting to be located at the OzSBI facility to see the office and tour. Motion to have meeting made Jill and second by Sylvia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Common Reading \u201cGarbology\u201d:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Common Reading Book: Garbology; all students will be required to read this book. It will be added to the students\u2019 coursework. Suggested to start a reading group to better communicate with students.<\/li>\n<li>May have a battery recycling initiative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Student Back-to-School Picnic:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aug. 14 from noon to 1:00; will be a BBQ; Located at Country Meadows (grassy area behind bear)<\/li>\n<li>Aug. 15 from noon to 1:00; picnic at People\u2019s Park<\/li>\n<li><em>Wed., Aug. 20<sup>th<\/sup> from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. paid by student life (no cost)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Action Item:<\/em> Need estimate of number of students so we know how many packs to make. Request for staff to organize gift packets and to help set-up and serve food. Roger will send a message with more information.
