Do you know the difference between a subsidized Stafford student loan and an unsubsidized Stafford student loan?
With a subsidized Stafford loan, the federal government pays the interest on the loan while you’re continuously enrolled in school at least half time. However, the amount of loan money you are awarded depends on the cost of attendance, your expected family contribution, and expected financial assistance.
With an unsubsidized Stafford loan, the interest on the loan will begin accruing immediately after the first disbursement. It will continue to accrue until the principal balance of the loan is paid in full. The amount you are awarded depends on the Cost of Attendance minus the amounts of other financial aid that you are receiving.
