Welcome new full-time employees:
- Darrell Hampsten is back as the SBTDC Coordinator
Chancellor’s Update:
- Hass-Darr completion date is now July 13
- University now owns the yellow house next to the Bell Tower and will be demolished soon
- Budget update
- Summer enrollment is down 27%; fall is down 1% in enrollment and down 5% in head count
- New Chancellor, Dr. Shirley Lawler to begin June 1
- Graduation numbers are up and we attribute that to the implementation of the common fee

- Corps of Opportunity positions for 2018-19 approved
- July 14 Adult Student Leadership Conference

Christina Kerley/Scott Schneider – University Reserves Presentation
- Enrollment has an impact on the money in reserves, and it is used at the Chancellor’s discretion. If we had to depend on the money in reserves to pay salaries, at the present time, there is only enough to cover 2.20 months. More will be added over the next several years as promised donations are received for Hass-Darr.
Faculty Senate Report: (Mary Kellum)
- From meeting with higher ed and BOG; House and Senate stipend
- $459,856 to West Plains
- With stipulation we don’t increase tuition more than 1%
- Currently doesn’t look like we’ll need any cuts
- Tuition will increase $1.00 instead of $5.00
- Dr. Bennett tasked Dr. Lancaster to come up with possible salary increases
- Significant risks – if Grietens remains Governor, he could potentially put us in a bind with future cuts
- A lot of the struggles are because of a tax change
- Faculty Service Log
- Comprised to show Administration the amount of work they do and how much they contribute to the community
- Their desire is for Staff Senate to develop their own service log as well
- Chalk and Wire training
- Lots of bugs in the system to work out
- Possibility to involve staff in the training
- Still working on Core 42 project
- Faculty Budget Committee
- Contacted Springfield CFO regarding fringe benefits and looking into our health insurance as a source of budget issues

New Business:
- University Principles – motion to support, carried
- Purchase request from Kristi Huff for retirement gift materials – motion to ask the Chancellor’s office if they will cover the cost as they have in the past and if not, Staff Senate will vote to release the funds to fulfill the request, carried
- Faculty Senate asked to allow a representative to attend Staff Senate meetings – It was voted on and approved in a previous meeting
Old Business:
- Scholarship idea proposed by Rachel Peterson; tabled until after the new Chancellor is in place
Department/Committee Reports/Updates/Discussion:
- Diversity activity: Grayson shared a movie review of “The Greatest Showman”, pointing out Oddities, Relationships, and Self-Reliance
- IT: Ozcon was last weekend and is projected to be the most successful one so far
- Supervisor Micro Workshops: Available to sign up in My Learning Connection; Bruce will email more information and dates available
- SGA RoundTable: May 3
- Sylvia Kuhlmeier thanked the Staff Senate for their donation, card, thoughts and prayers while she was out
